Increased Kw motors

Electric motors, in general, are standardised to either IEC or NEMA specification. One of the advantages of this is that it is very often not necessary to replace a particular brand with the same brand. ALL the major manufacturers conform to the same set of standards.

This means, for example, that ALL 80 frame IEC motors will have a 19mm drive shaft, and will all have the centre height of this drive shaft measure 80mm from the centre of the shaft vertically down to the base of the mounting feet. The distance of the centres of the feet mounting positions from front to back will all be the same as will the side-to-side centre dimensions.

There are also standards set to determine exactly what Kw will be in each particular frame size depending also on the nominal speed of the motor.
For example, 1.5 Kw, or 2HP motor 3phase @ 1400 rpm will be in an IEC 90 frame whereas @ 2800 rpm the standard maximum is 2.2 Kw or 3 HP.

These are the standards – but the exception is also true where machine manufacturers have sourced increased Kw motors to give an extra boost where it might help!

Electromotors carry a range of these in stock so if you need extra please ask what we might be able to do for you.
